Makin' a Mess (of Commercial Success)Asylum Records, 1995 |
By the time work on this album had begun, the trademark 12-string was silenced but not the voice. Accompanied by The Nashville Pickers, and with the vocal backing of a host of musical luminaries, such as Tom Paxton, Glenn Yarbrough, Peter Yarrow, Emmylou Harris, John Hartford, Spunky McFarlane, Josh White, Jr. and many others, Bob Gibson made his final recording. Fittingly, it was produced by Shel Silverstein - one of Bob's closest friends and his longest musical collaborator - and Kyle Lehning of Asylum. It features an array of Silverstein songs which run the gamut from the sublime to the ridiculous. This is quintessential Gibson doing quintessential Silverstein.
